(Ouananiche) “Land Locked Salmon”

Few fish command the unique physical skill set of the Ouananiche in measurable strength, speed and endurance. They patrol the large rapids and immense reservoirs on northern Quebec’s far north. During the early runs in June, they are most active in heavy waters where once a hook up occurs, the air show begins. Leaping from crest to crest, they unleash the fury that will thrill even the most accomplished angler. In July, Ouananiche typically congregate in larger bodies of water as they progress through their migratory cycle. August finds the Salmon instinctively returning to the fast churning waters where numbers and size of fish increase which offers a terrific angling opportunity. Fly-fishing practitioners will revel at the prospects of landing the acrobatic Ouananiche on light tackle.
